Portuguese startup Tonic App takes second place in the App Competition at one of the world’s largest health fairs, MEDICA 2018, in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Tonic App has garnered second place on the podium of the competition for best mobile application at MEDICA 2018.

By taking second place in this competition, the Portuguese startup receives a cash prize of 1,000 euros and access to mentorship from the German pharmaceutical company Bayer.

Tonic App helps medical doctors to diagnose and treat their patients by curating for them, in smarter ways, the massively dispersed resources they need for their day-to-day work.

This solution was born about a year-and-a-half ago, and it is used by more than 17% of physicians in Portugal.

“The rapid success in Portugal with the medical community has made us decide that it is time to internationalize,” said Tonic App CEO Daniela Seixas, MD, in a statement.

“I am proud to announce that Tonic App is already available in the UK, France and Spain, three of the five most important health markets in Europe,” she added.

In April, Portugal’s own Tonic App, whose search engine is considered to be the “Google for Doctors,” was named one of the top 50 startups by TiE50 with a chance to win the top startup prize in Silicon Valley.

Tonic App made the TiE50 best technological startups cut out of 7,400 startups from 28 different countries, with the potential to be named “Top Startup” at the TiE Inflect 2018 entrepreneur conference that took place in Silicon Valley from May 4-5.

The Portuguese startup was recognized for its “Google for Doctors” search engine, Tonic Search, which is an intelligent search engine that brings together on one page all the clinical guidelines and codes that support the diagnosis, treatment, and referral of patients.

Tonic App is the professional app of all medical doctors. It increases the efficiency of clinical work as it allows for fast and safe discussions of patient cases, team collaboration, and it aggregates content for day-to-day professional use, such as drug conversion tables and clinical calculators.

It is free for medical doctors and it is available for Android and iPhone. Hospitals and other health organizations can subscribe to Tonic App to increase the quality and efficiency of medical care while reducing costs.
